You can ask students to estimate the total number of dots, then count to check their guesses.
Alternatively, students can guess the number by asking questions that can only be answered with “yes” or “no.” When you first introduce this game, you can start by giving them a range.
The winner is the student who guessed it right.
To make it harder and add in more creativity, players can’t say any numbers. They can describe the number that they are saying instead. For example, is it more than Snow White’s dwarves? Is it more than the number of planets?
Dotty Patterns
Arrange dots in different sequences.
Kids can identify repeating patterns, predict the next dot in the sequence, or even create their own dotty patterns.
Dotty Symmetry
Materials: Paper, cotton swabs, paint
Instructions:
- Fold the paper: Fold a piece of paper in half right down the middle.
- Unfold the paper: Gently open the paper to flatten it out.
- Create a dot pattern: Use a cotton swab as a paintbrush to create a design or pattern on one half of the folded paper. Be creative!
- Make it symmetrical: Carefully fold the paper back in half along the original fold line. Press firmly to transfer the paint from the first half onto the other half.
