3 Interesting Fire Safety Math Activities You Need To Know

Fire safety math activities are perfect during fire prevention month, Fire Prevention Week or fire safety day.

But they are also suitable to use year-round to remind students about fire safety.

And if they can learn about math at the same time, that is wonderful, isn’t it?

In this article, I will share with you these 3 fire safety math activities and how you can use them in other ways.

If you get inspired, use them and post them on Instagram, do tag me! I’ll be happy to share with the community too.

Firefighter Craft

Firefighter Craft includes ordinal numbers, time, comparing & measuring length, multiplying within 40, and dividing within 20 recording sheets.

This firefighter craft can also be used for community helpers units, International Firefighters’ Day, and Labor Day.

This firefighter hands-on activity includes firefighters of different shapes, genders, and skin colors.

There are many firefighter craft template for you to choose from!

There are three options:

  1. you can either cut out the rectangle with the firefighter already inside (saving time and catering to students who struggle with cutting),
  2. cut out the firefighter within the rectangle,
  3. or you can use a one-page template to cut and assemble the pieces yourself.

You can simply use these crafts standalone or as a topper to the math worksheets (Ordinal Numbers, Comparing & Measuring Length, Time, Multiplying within 40, Dividing within 20) included.

Preschool firefighter craft includes 6 pages of question templates.

You can also use these toppers with other subjects if you wish. For example, ask students to write a thank you note and use the craft to decorate it.

Alternatively, you can paste a chopstick or ice cream stick behind them to use as a puppet.

Encouraging students to use their firefighter designs as puppets or decorations extends the activity beyond mere academics. Puppetry can be a powerful educational tool, fostering imagination and storytelling skills.

They can also act as a great bulletin board decoration.

Fire Truck Craft

Fire Truck Craft includes the following worksheets: shape, bar graph, ten frame, pattern and counting.

This fire truck craft has 3 main truck designs. Truck A and B are the front view of the fire truck while Truck C is the side view.

Truck A is made up of 4 shapes with 8 recording sheets (including different sizes).

On the other hand, Truck B and Truck C are made up of 6 shapes with 7 recording sheets.

These recording sheets require students to recognize shapes, count them, and engage in graphing activities.

There are 24 pages of printable fire truck craft question templates.

The inclusion of extra worksheets further enhances the learning experience by offering opportunities for counting, pattern recognition, and ten-frame practice.

There are a total of 22-page black & white question sheets and only 2-page colored question sheets.

Students can use this shape fire truck craft template as topper craft.

You can ask students to cut out the shapes from colored paper and create their own fire truck designs. You can still use the recording sheets for accountability.

Encouraging students to design their own fire trucks adds a creative element to the activity, fostering individual expression while still emphasizing mathematical concepts.

Students can create their own fire truck-themed stories and plays, enhancing their language arts skills and boosting their confidence in public speaking.

Alternatively, using these designs as decorations adds a personal touch to the classroom, making it a more welcoming and inspiring environment.

This hands-on approach helps to solidify their understanding of geometric concepts in a fun and interactive way.

BoomTM Cards are digital task cards from the Boom Learning platform. Most of them are self-checking and interactive, engaging your students and giving them instant feedback that they need.

I found a math boom card with a fire safety theme that is free: Fire Trucks & Number Words by Two Creative Co-workers
