Not only can they see the relevance of what they learn in the classroom, but they can also explore how their math expertise can translate into valuable income opportunities.
In this blog post, we will explore three different ways to earn money with math. They are not a get rich scheme but are truly profitable ways that I tried personally.
Whether you’re an educator looking to supplement your income or someone passionate about math, these avenues offer a chance to share your knowledge, support fellow educators, and make a meaningful impact in the world of education.
Let’s dive in and discover the possibilities!
1) Sell math resources on TPT to earn money with math
Selling educational resources online has become a popular side hustle for many educators, and Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) is one of the leading platforms for this purpose.
While success on TPT may not come overnight, with dedication and the right approach, you can turn it into a successful venture.
You will need to sign up for an account with TPT and you can start to sell for free. You can always try without the premium membership to dabble first.
I don’t think you need to have the premium membership right from the start as there will be a period of time when you are busy creating products and for your store to gain some traction.
I only switched to premium membership once I earned that amount from the platform itself.
Here are some essential that you need to prepare when you first start on TPT:
- Visuals for your logo, store banner, side banner, personal quote box
- A free resource (the first resource you post needs to be a freebie).
- Resources that you plan to sell. It can be a pdf, google slides, worksheets, clip art, games, crafts, etc.
- Create a template for square cover and thumbnails, landscape preview, terms of use slot in your resource. (You can just create them and reuse them as a template).
There are many teacherpreneurs that will gladly teach you how to start selling on TPT.

Ways to create math resources
There are two ways you can create your resources.
First way is to create the background on PowerPoint slides, Canva or Google Slides then save as an image file. Next, upload to the Boom Learning platform and add more interactive functions.
The second way is to create on the platform itself.
Personally, I prefer to create on PowerPoint first as I find it is easier to do so. Furthermore, it will be more efficient if I am to create a printable version.
But before you create your resource, you will need to have an idea of how you want your resource to work. So plan first so you will know how to design your slides.
For example, are you going to use the multiple choice (and do you want the options to be randomize?), drag and drop, or fill in the blanks.
If you don’t need the multiple choice to randomize, you can fix the options on the background slides. But if you want them to be randomized, you will need to leave space so you can create a table on the Boom Learning platform.
While this platform works wonderful for digital task cards, you can sell printable, clip arts and fonts too.
Here are more ways you can gain more information about this platform:

3) Math tutor part time job to earn money with math
This is a straightforward way to earn money with math skills. The great thing about this is you get paid for your time and expertise.
You are the one that decides your hourly rate that reflects your experience, qualifications, and the local market.
Another advantage of working as a math tutor is the flexibility it offers. You can choose your working hours based on your availability, making it an ideal part-time job that can be easily integrated into your schedule.
The cons of this are you have to find your student yourself, travel often to the students’ house, deal with the admin stuff like changing of lessons timing and payment.
Final Thoughts
Becoming a teacherpreneur is not without its challenges. The increased workload, occasional disappointments, and the need for effective marketing can be daunting.
However, by embracing these challenges and implementing strategies such as time management, continuous improvement, marketing efforts, diversification, and seeking support from the teacherpreneur community, you can overcome obstacles and achieve success.
Keep honing your craft, refining your resources, and reaching out to educators who can benefit from your expertise. With dedication and resilience, you can turn your passion for teaching into a rewarding entrepreneurial journey.
Now you can tell your students proudly that the math skills we learn as kids are actually super useful even when we grow up!
