Every student love to do crafts but 3D Paper Crafts just bring it to another level! Students are just amazed when you bring another dimension to your craft.
So bring 3D paper crafts for kids to your math lesson to add the extra zest and give them more reasons to be excited! It is a great way to practice math skills and improve fine motor skills.
Show off the 3D paper crafts after putting all the hard work into creating them. Decorate your classroom or bulletin boards by hanging them up. I bet they made terrific decorations!
In today’s blog post, I will be sharing with you 3 cool and easy 3-d papercraft that you can do with your students. Rest assured that these paper projects don’t require construction paper, hot glue, a cutting machine, a craft knife, and other fancy materials.
Dodecahedron 3D paper craft
Looking for NO PREP FUN math activities that engage and motivate students? Then this dodecahedron math project is perfect for you!
The dodecahedron has 12 sides, with 11 sides requiring students to solve math problems. Your students will enjoy this 3d hands-on activity as it allows them to solve, color (optional), cut, fold, and glue/stapler. They are perfect for kinesthetic learners!
Here’s how it works:
1) Choose and print the papercraft template of your choice.
You can choose the template that requires you to stick them in the correct order or the free-form template whereby you can choose to piece them together freely.
2) Do the math questions.
Use different colors to decorate it to make it more vibrant.
3) Cut them out.
4) Fold the flaps.
5) Staple or use glue sticks to paste them together.
I’ll try not to use liquid glue with my crafts as it takes time to dry up.
Note: If you want to make it into a vase or container, don’t paste the circle with the title. This will create an opening where you can place paper flowers or other stuff inside.
This whole project can take a long time, about 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, but it will be worth it.
The best thing about this product line is some of them provide EDITABLE templates! This means you can change the questions to suit your needs (which makes it easy for differentiation). With the blank template, you can also create your very own unique dodecahedron.
This craft may better suit older kids but my student aged 9 years old can complete it with some help from me.
There are many math skills for this craft:
- Area and Circumference Activity: 3D Math Paper Craft
- Area and Perimeter of Rectangles and Squares
- Mixed Numbers And Improper Fractions
- Order Of Operations Hands On Activities
- 5th grade Rounding Decimals Activity
Foldable Pop-Up Book
The way it opens up makes this book so interesting. So expect students to be engaged and motivated with this properties of quadrilaterals practice!
Furthermore, you get to choose among the 6 NO-PREP templates to cater to your needs:
- The small template will result in an 11 cm x 11 cm x 5.5 cm book when expanded.
- The big template will result in a 16 cm x 16 cm x 8 cm book when expanded.
- Templates with four sided figures (with and without questions).
- Front and back templates for small templates (with and without questions).
With templates without questions, you can use these resources from grade 3 to the 11th grade. That is because you can use these to differentiate the shapes, teach angles or geometry, and area and perimeter.
Personally, I will use this resource with my Primary 5 and 6 students.
This math craft is great for:
- Math Centers / Math Stations
- End of Year Activities
- Back to School Activities
- Substitutes
